Southern Arizona The Best of the Southwest

8 Days: April 27 to May 4, 2010

Discover southern Arizona, from the multicultural cosmopolitan city of Tucson in a desert plateau surrounded by mountains to the gorgeous desert and rocky boulder scenery of the landscapes, and the uniquely western cities of Benson, Tombstone, and Bisbee.

Visit the captivating Mission San Xavier del Bac and Fort Huachuca, an important U.S. Army military base and home to the 92nd and 93rd all African-American Infantry divisions known as the Buffalo Soldiers.

Sample wines at one of Arizona’s best wineries in Elgin’s grape vineyards.

In Tucson: tour downtown Tucson, the historic district, the bohemian art street, and the lovely neighborhoods in the Catalina Foothills.

Visit the Arizona State Museum on the University of Arizona campus, the Tucson Museum of Art, and The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum with a zoo, a natural history museum, and botanical garden all in one with animals (including some endangered species) and plants native to the Sonoran Desert.

See the petroglyphs in beautiful Saguaro National Mountain Park.

Listen to the music of one of Tucson’s great Mariachi bands.

Go caving in Benson: visit one of the world’s most beautiful caves: Kartchner Caverns, an eerie wonderland of live stalactites and stalagmites.

In Tombstone: visit the wild-west Bird Cage Theatre, the OK Corral famous for the infamous Wyatt Earp/Billy Clanton/Doc Holiday gunfight. Big Nose Kate’s Saloon, and the Rosetree Museum and Book Store.

In Bisbee: visit The Queen Mine, a fascinating old copper mine, and also visit art galleries and the private studio of a renowned sculptor.

On the tour you will have some leisure time and you will dine in excellent restaurants.

Cost: Double occupancy: $1,895.  Single occupancy: $2,295.  Airfare not included.
