Chiapas Tour

Tuxtla Gutierrez Chiapa del Corso San Cristobal de Las Casas & villages Palenque Villa Hermosa and much more!

9 Days, November 29-December 7, 2010

Chiapas is both exotic and sophisticated, and is home to magnificent archaeological sites, gorgeous textiles and crafts, lovely colonial cities and towns, and some of Mexico’s most beautiful scenery, from pine forests to tropical jungles.

Explore Palenque, “the most sublime of all the Mayan ruins”, and Toniná the tallest.

Visit two great waterfalls, Misol-ha and Agua Azul.

In Chiapa de Corzo, visit Museo de Laca, a lacquer-ware museum with an outstanding collection of painted gourds.

In San Cristobal de Las Casas see splendid colonial buildings and fascinating museums.

Visit the work-shops of several artisans, see striking weavings, ceramics of high quality, and native markets and select shops, including the Women’s Co-op Sna Jolobil.

In the village of San Juan Chamula, visit La Iglesia de San Juan Bautista, an intriguing church that mingles ancient Mayan healing rituals with Catholicism.

Visit the fabulous Museo Sergio Castro, where Mr. Castro will talk to you about the ceremonial costumes displayed in his museum and teach you about the various aspects of indigenous village life. He will also accompany the group for a day.

Learn about the Lacandon Indians on a visit to Casa Na-Bolom, the former home of Trudi and Franz Bloom and partake of a delicious native dinner prepared especially for you in Na-Bolom’s colorful dining room.

Visit Taller Leñateros to learn how their hand-made paper, paper creations and bindings are crafted, and visit a great coffee museum.

In Villahermosa visit Parque Museo La Venta with several massive Olmec stone heads peering through the jungle.

Sample the best of Mayan cuisine and have free time to explore on your own.

Cost: Double occupancy: $2,195.  Single occupancy: $2,495.  Airfare not included.
